With current concerns surrounding COVID-19 and potential germ spreading are you concerned about the way your cutting tools are being shared in your workplace?

In these uncertain times we are all looking for ways that we can control the spread of disease between individuals. We all have a duty of care to protect ourselves and each other in the workplace.

At Martor Australia we have always advised our customers that their cutting tools need to be maintained and cleaned on a regular basis. There is no better time than now to make sure that this process is being implemented by your employees.

What are some of the ways you can make sure your cutting tools are clean and germ free?

1. Use disposable safety knives where possible

We have a selection of disposable safety cutters that can be provided to employees. These disposable cutters can be cleaned easily with an appropriate cleaning solution and reused the next day or disposed of after use.

2. Regularly clean knives with a safe and appropriate cleaning fluid

We recommend that cutting tools be cleaned on a daily basis by blowing them out with compressed air to remove dust and then sanitised with an appropriate cleaning fluid. We recommend Smart San D2 Surface Sanitiser that is an isopropyl alcohol and a powerful quaternary ammonium compound formula that is food safe, non-corrosive and safe for equipment and machinery.

3. Limit sharing of cutting tools

Ideally, each employee should be allocated their own cutting tool and blades and they should be responsible for the cleaning and care of their tool each day.

4. Use gloves when working with tools

If you are unable to allocate each employee their own cutting tool providing disposable gloves or work gloves may be necessary.

The best way to contain the spread of any virus is to follow recommendations from both the Australian Government website and the World Health Organisation website
